More and more I receive calls from customers that own rental property that are looking for away to lower cost to fix up units to rent for the first time or in between tenants. Here is the question I get a lot.Do you think carpet tiles would be a good solution for me? It it not just a good solution, but it is a wonderful no-nonsense solution. The best part about carpet tile is it can be a cheaper cost than Broadloom (wall to wall carpet). It is a DIY job so you do not have to hire an installer and pay out a lot of cash for labor and materials. We know that contractors and installers most of the time mark up the material they use. With carpet tiles that money can stay in your pocket and that is a good feeling.

How easy are carpet tiles to replace? Well say your tenants move out and as you inspect the place you notice that in the living area that there is a big grape stain on the floor (everybody’s worst nightmare). All you have to do is pull it up and put another one down in it’s place. That simple thanks to the releasable adhesive. No need to replace the whole thing or stretch it again like with wall to wall carpet. That keeps money in your wallet for a longer period of time and that is what we all need. Carpet tiles are very durable and long lasting and has a moisture and vapor barrier as well. This keeps your rental property safer from damage to the subfloor due to spilled liquids penetrating down to it. Less money you have to spend on floor repairs.

Over all carpet tile is perfect it in most situations, like in the rental business. They are cheap in price, easy to install, durable, long lasting, and a great DIY money saving project for most everybody including home owners , and small business owners. So if you are one of those people who like to save money and do it yourself then carpet tile is for you. Good luck and we will see you on the job.

A home theater system is an investment in entertainment, and to some it is an obsession. We spend billions on electronics each year in this country. Our big screen television sets, amplifiers, speakers, Blu-Ray players, subwoofers, and every other component of our theater system are chosen with the utmost thought and care. Some of us go as far as to tune our systems and measure our speaker placement. But even if you are an aficionado and have done everything imaginable you may be missing out on perfection. “What’s left?” you may ask. What is missing is the perfect sound absorbing floor covering – home theater carpet. The best carpet for the home theater is carpet tile.

I know you’re thinking what carpet tile could have to do with your home theater system. Just imagine having your system set up inside a cathedral: a large open room with surfaces that don’t absorb a single sound wave. Can you imagine what the quality of the sound might be? Think of the amount of reverb that would be coming back at you. You wouldn’t even be able to understand the dialogue in a movie. Now think about what materials are in a cathedral: stone, wood, glass, brick, etc. Look around your living room and what do you see? More than likely you are seeing the same types of building materials. Unfortunately, most homes aren’t constructed with the home theater system in mind.

Now you are wondering how you can use carpet tiles to your benefit. Carpet tiles are the perfect thing to provide acoustic flooring in your home theater. The sounds coming from your theater system will be absorbed, and this will diminish any potential reverb or echo that bounces from the floor to your ears. This is especially beneficial for front speakers

Residential carpet tiles are very affordable and easy to install. If you have an unfinished basement, they are a cheap and easy way to provide a floor with the best acoustic properties. Your basement may be the best option for a home theater. Imagine a room in the house perfectly tuned for your theater system, and carpet tiles are the perfect sound insulation. You could crank up Lord of the Rings or AC/DC as loud as you want. You could even completely soundproof a room by tiling the walls. This may be especially helpful if you have neighbors close by, or if you keep different hours than the other people in your house.

Additionally, If you are a musician, carpet tiles would be the perfect sound insulation for a practice space or studio. Recording equipment, especially top of the line microphones, are very sensitive to natural reverb. Carpet tiles are the perfect solution to provide a better acoustic environment. And they will keep sound from escaping into adjacent rooms. You could play the drums and not wake the baby.

So whether you are a home theater buff, a musician, or just someone looking to maximize the acoustic efficiency of their personal space, carpet tiles are the answer. Search the Focus Floors website for different styles and colors of carpet tiles and see what you can come up with. They just might be the perfect answer for your flooring and acoustic needs.

This article will attempt to break down the installation process in a few steps. Don’t worry, carpet tile is very forgiving. If you mess up, start over. The installation is very simple. Not only is it easy, it also takes less time than other flooring systems.

The first thing you need to do is determine your pattern. You need to first decide what tile will be in the middle of the room. Once you have determined which tile will be the focal point the real work begins.

Measure the length of each wall and take half of this number to determine the middle of wall. Pencil in a mark in the center of each wall.

Next, measure one side of the tile and divide that in half to find the center of the tile. Line the center of the tile up with the center of the wall, and mark the wall on each end of the tile. Repeat this process on all of the walls.

After you have completed all of your marks, line up a chalk line from one tile marker to the one directly across the room. Snap a chalk line for each. This will create a crosshair in which to place your center tile.

From here all you need to do is line up tiles from the center toward the outside edges of the room. Do not remove the adhesive backing just yet. You can experiment with different color patterns at this point for as long as it takes to find the one that best fits the room. Once you have determined the pattern, installing carpet tiles is as easy as removing the adhesive backing and smoothing out the tiles. All that is left is to trim the squares against the wall.

For this last step in carpet tile installation you need a razor and a straight edge (a ruler or carpenter’s square if handy). Turn the carpet tile over and line up the edge with the wall. Make a mark on the back of the tile where it overlaps the next to last row of tiles. Use the straight edge and razor to cut the tile at this line. Check the fit of the tile in the space, and determine if it fits. Once you get a good fit, remove the adhesive strip and smooth out the remaining tile.

There you have it, the least difficult and least time consuming carpet installation ever.

If you are looking for a cost effective flooring system, there isn’t anything that will beat carpet tiles. You don’t have to spend exorbitant amounts of money on the tiles and you definitely don’t have to spend the money on professional installation. It’s an easy and efficient means to floor any room in your house, and takes less than half a day to do. So if time and money are important to you, but you have a room that needs a floor, just install your own carpet tiles. Have a look at some examples of how carpet tiles can be installed in our Carpet Tile Installation Gallery.

Buying flooring for a room can be a costly endeavor no matter what the material. Not only do you have to buy the floor covering, but then comes the cost of labor, installation materials, and the more difficult the installation, the more you may end up paying. There are many surfaces to choose from for your specific room or project: wall to wall carpet, carpet tile, tile (hard surface), linoleum, the list goes on. But if you want to get the most bang for your buck, carpet tiles are probably the way to go. Carpet tiles are available, but not only will you pay less for the material, but the ease of installation and transportation will be helpful to your budget.

Whether you are someone who needs to floor a large facility or a single room, carpet tiles will be your most cost efficient solution. Carpet tiles can be purchased at deep discounts or even at wholesale, which can be beneficial for someone needing to floor a gym facility, an office, or a lobby. If you are looking for flooring for residential use don’t think you have to be confined to paying full price for the floor you want. Short lots are available at deep discounts and can be the best option for someone looking to carpet a living room, den, a bedroom, etc.

Large quantities of carpet tile can be very easily transported as opposed to large rolls of carpet. This lowers the cost of your floor even more. Enough carpet tiles could be transported in a single truck load to floor an entire house. The same cannot be said for full length rolls. Combine the ease of transportation with a set of cheap carpet tiles, your costs will fit within any budget, and that’s with the cost of installation.

What is the cost of carpet tiles? It is not uncommon to find carpet tiles for as little as sixty, fifty, even thirty cents a square foot. Compared with the average cost of standard carpeting you are saving twenty to fifty cents per square foot, plus your installation costs will be less. Just imagine the already low cost of carpet tile, and then what you could save on a liquidated lot. You could end up with the floor of your dreams at a fraction of the cost you would pay for standard carpet or other flooring products.

If you are looking for an affordable floor system, Focus Floor’s lines of discount carpet tiles are a great place to start. They are easy to transport and easy to install. Don’t think because you have a small budget you can’t buy a beautiful and practicle floor. Take a look and see what carpet tiles offer for your flooring needs.

Carpet tiles have traditionally been used in spaces where the end use dictates the need for a durable, versatile floor covering. Today, various uses of carpet tiles include basements, family rooms, children’s bedrooms, bathrooms, mud/laundry rooms, schools, hospitals, day cares, boats, home and commercial office spaces, retail stores, and trade shows. Consumers have used them for RV’s garages and on floors and ceilings providing acoustical advantages in recording studios.

Recently, carpet tiles have expanded into the area rug category. This latest emerging trend is popular with loft and apartment owners who use carpet tiles to create sophisticated, sectional space with carpet tile.

Design Flexibility
Consumers use their own imagination to create their various patterns and colors. Some patterns lend themselves to even more creativity by their ability to be quarter turned (the tiles have directional arrows on the back) creating greater depth through this planned shade variation.

Carpet tiles can be used over most smooth hard surfaces including particle board, hardwood, concrete, laminate or vinyl flooring and ceramic tile. They have a skid resistant durable and pliable back so no padding is required. All that is needed for a do-it-yourself project is a chalk line, straight edge, sharp utility knife and either double sided tape or pressure sensitive adhesive which can be applied to the backing with a small sponge brush.

Carpet tiles, originally introduced in the 1960’s were not as well constructed as they are today. They did not wear as well and weren’t as easy to clean. Color and pattern selections were mundane. They have dramatically changed the look and performance.
Focus Floors offers three basic size tiles: 18”x18” tiles, 24”x 24” tiles and 36”x36” tiles. However, some tiles are now being offered in rectangular panels 24”x36”. Their durable face fiber is literally fused into a tough but flexible backing, this eliminates any unraveling edges.

These densely constructed, low profile ¼” – 3/8” thick tiles weigh approximately 1 pound per square foot depending on the face weight and backing of each style. So they are heavy enough to hug the floor.

Carpet tiles are easy to clean or replace. Vacuum or simply remove the soiled tile and wash the mild detergent in a sink or tub. Tiles may also be rotated from higher traffic areas to lower traffic areas to maximize wear and improve appearance.

You can always contact Focus Floors for more information and carpet tile samples.

Focus Floors has been working to develop new products that use only renewable (recycled) materials. Both commercial and residential products are developed to offer environmental sustainability while not compromising aesthetics or performance. There is a fine line in using recyclable raw materials. First, the cost: There is a cost to remove a product that’s selected for recycling. This is the removal from an existing floor. Then there is the freight cost to bring the product back into Chattanooga, TN where Focus Floors uses Certified Recycling to recycle their products. This is where the product begins it’s refining process of breaking down the old products content. This process varies depending on the original products make-up but all recycling has direct costs involved. the equipment that reformulates a used carpet tile into pellets that can be re-used obviously requires energy to run.

Once, you have recycled content to go back into new products you are only able to reintroduce 20-30% recycled content with 70-80% new raw materials. This is the main reason for expanding the number of new products that can use a percentage of recycled content. Besides a wider range of products there has become a need to develop lighter weight products that still have the same wear or performance capability as a older version that was heavier because it used more raw materials. This process is working and thanks to improved product development less is proving it can be best. Processes that offer the consumer lighter but stronger features are a key to maximizing the use of recycled content.

Focus Floors is constantly looking at ways to reduce their impact on the land air and water.

Recycled carpet tiles are available at the Focus Floors online store >>

There are three primary backing systems on carpet tiles or squares such as cushion, vinyl, and thermoplastic. All three can be used in a residential or commercial setting. The cushion back can be a nice addition to any home or commercial office. These are well sought out after tiles by many customers. Many of these tiles are thicker and have a little bit more give to them than the other backing systems, but will still allow for the smooth flow of an office chair to glade along without any problem. They hold up to heavy traffic and heavy furniture as well. Cushion back tiles can come in many different sizes such as 18″,24″,36″, and 39″. Milliken manufactures a nice cushion back tile.
